Swinging Into Spring

Normally, college students make every attempt to avoid their professors and faculty when they go out, especially after having a drink or two. However, once a year, the invitation is extended to mingle with your professors in a setting outside of the classroom: the President’s Gala, Babson’s annual semi-formal.

Amidst years’-past criticism of the event as being “a waste of time until the dance party begins”, this year’s President’s Gala showed strong attendance in the six hundreds and saw respectable attendance even for the first two hours, which featured a swing band and a quick foxtrot lesson.

Knight Auditorium was decked out with long draperies off the balcony along with an array of flat-panel televisions that have now become the standard at Knight Parties. These televisions featured pictures of party-goers that were taken free of charge by the Campus Activities Board (CAB), whom organized the event. The Gatsby theme even extended into the freebies with fedora-style top hats for the men and long strings of pearls for the women as well as way-fairer style sunglasses thrown off the stage once the dance-party had begun. In addition, the annual limo raffle was held, sponsored by RTN. Per usual, CAB did a tremendous job of setting the tune of the evening.

In other news, the Spring Concert bill was revealed at the event on Friday, February 26th and the lineup will be as follows: opening the show will be Travie McCoy of Gym Class Heroes, headlining will be Kid Cudi, and to cap it all off: Girl Talk, the mash-up artist sure to inspire a dance party after.

Courtney Heimann, VP of CAB said “The concert has been received really well, the campus seems really excited! We have sold 700 tickets in the first 2 days.”

There has been talk that this could be one of the best Spring Concerts ever to make its way to campus, but only time will tell. Look for more emails from CAB and as always, keep checking the Babson Freep Daily and Sunday Log in your Babson email for the latest news on both the Spring Concert and other events on campus.

***Update: The Spring Concert has been sold out!
