The Biz-ness: Babson Beaver Named!
Despite the chilly weather, Banana Splittin’ Day, held Thursday April 15, went on without a hitch. With blow up games, an obstacle course, a DJ, the free BBQ, and of course, the ice cream eating contest, the event was a hit for all the students that braved the cold and attended. However, this year was extra special for another reason: the unveiling of the Babson beaver’s new name!
At 4:15, everyone gathered in the Park Manor Quad, curiously gazing at the door to Central while “The Final Countdown” blared in the background. As the beaver practically skipped down the stairs, a poster was unfurled exclaiming the new name: Biz E. Beaver! Biz E., or The Biz, then proceeded to run around the crowd, giving air fives as everyone cheered.
Biz E.’s name was one of the more clever and pun-filled options for the beaver’s new name. Obviously, the phonetic enunciation of the name sounds like “busy,” representing not only the phrase “busy as a beaver” but also referring to the hectic schedule of our campus, our students, and our staff. However, more unknown, is the fact that the name also stands for an abbreviation of Business Entrepreneurship, one of Babson’s key focuses. Many people seemed quite happy with this choice, including Biz E. himself!
The name was selected after almost a month long process, including a campus wide student survey.
