A Wedding Reception to Remember

If you were at Trim for dinner on March 31, you got a little taste of it. At 6PM, performers from the Babson Players put on quite a show, previewing the upcoming spring musical. As the lead singer walked down the stairs singing the theme to The Wedding Singer, other performers danced around the dining hall, making onlookers both nervous and excited.

However, a little over a week later, the actual performance has arrived, opening Friday, April 9th in Sorenson Theater. From the very moment you sit down, you know you’re in for quite a treat. With two runways set up, amazing lighting, and music videos playing (all before the show even begins), it is clear that this is going to be an entertaining show. When the theater lights dim and the stage lights up, the magic begins.

Apart from the performers themselves, the props were well built and the costumes were phenomenal. I found myself counting the number of wedding dresses I saw in the performance and wondering how the wooden bed vibrated so well (you’ll know what I mean once you see the play).

With a live band playing in the background for the entirety of the play, it was a true portrayal of The Wedding Singer. As the band played many well-known songs such as Billy Idol’s “White Wedding”, Bon Jovi’s “Living on a Prayer”, and even the famous “Final Countdown”, the audience was singing along to the music. In addition to the band, the performers themselves added a great deal to the soundtrack. Their catchy tunes and lively voices made the room come alive with energy and vitality. You, as the audience, cannot help but react to the scenes that come alive before your eyes. Whether those reactions are laughter, surprise, sadness, or simple appreciation, you will walk away knowing you made good use of your night.

With humor, drama, ,and incredible energy, The Wedding Singer will leave you wanting more. The two and a half hours slip by quickly as the performers surprise you with unexpected jokes, catchy songs, and a perfect touch of vulgarity. This is a show you do not want to miss. It kept to the script of the movie, but added so much more. The Players truly brought the film to life on the stage.
